I LOVE Halloween time with my students! Most of my students participate in our Halloween Masquerade performance event. Everyone dresses in costume and I do something fun in between performers. I recorded a video on some spooktacular ideas I've done for our Halloween Masquerade performances over the years. You can watch it here: https://musiceducatorresources.com/2023/10/10/5-ways-to-liven-your-halloween-performance-music-teacher-tip-40/
I also hold group lessons the week of Halloween (no lessons on Halloween). Last year we did a Rhythm and Glow. It was so much fun. Here is a video short you can watch of what we did. Hope it gives some fun ideas! https://youtu.be/fU9slrr0yRc?si=3Sj4f4EQMpeStRLZ
These are really cool ideas, Jennifer! I especially love the sound stories in your Halloween Masquerade performances, what a nice way to get the whole audience involved!
There is so much creative repertoire in this genre! Russell Olesh's "Zombie Tango" was a great reminder to me of remembering to introduce fresh styles, as my students loved that tune and it got us thinking of transforming melodies into tangos!
Your video on this is so much fun! What a great idea to get your son involved in making a video to go with the piece! (Here's the link for the other readers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HBt3RDrreo)
Thank you, Garreth! This was sooo special for me to collaborate with him and my husband on this one and it's such a fabulous piece by Russell! Thanks for sharing! My kids STILL are found humming this tango tune - lol.
